Riding in Reykjavik is a small family business supporting the employment participation for people with autism

Riding in Reykjavik is located at the hobby farm Akurholt in Reykjavík, were we have lived for the past 15 years. It is a small family business, our aim is to deliver authentic experience and make our guests feel like home. Our trips are informative, fun and specially designed for those who want to get to know the Icelandic horse, its history and get touch of Iceland´s exceptional nature.

Furthermore we are proud to be part of an employment participation program for people with autism and help them to be a part of the community. It is important to us as parents to autistic boy that employment possibilities for people with special needs will be improved. At our horse rental and soon to be guesthouse a part of our employees will be joining us from an organizationcalled specialisterne. It is our believe that people should have possibilities to be educated and to work were their effort is appreciated and where they feel happy and safe.

But who are we?

Hanna and Helgi are the owners of Riding in Reykjavik both of us have been around horses since we were very young. Helgi is very experienced in horse training and has been around horses from early age. Our sons, Kristjón, Sigþór and Tómas are taking their first steps in horse riding, they have grown up around the horses and are very interested.

The idea about starting a horse rental had been in the air for some time because we felt that we were so lucky to live in such a perfect place and we wanted others to get to know it as well and experience this amazing country site within city limits. Our goal is to keep the business small and personal and be able to care well for our horses. By being able to rent our home along with renting our horses we feel that we can add a more personal service and we will be able to make the stay more authentic and memorable.

By booking tours with us you will not only get in touch with the Icelandic horse, the history and the nature but also contribute a large amount to the employment of autistic people.

We offer a good selection of trips both for beginners and experienced riders alike. Please take a look at our selection here.
